Shipping to & from the Cayman Islands

Whether you are living in or moving to the Cayman Islands one thing that most people will do at one time or the other, is to ship something to or from the island. Many people look at shipping as one big hassle, but it is not complicated once you are aware of the resources available to make the process as simple as possible.

There are three main shipping lines and many freight forwarders that will work with you to ensure that your shipping experience is as stress free as possible. You will have the option of shipping your cargo as a full container or less than container load. This will depend on the total size of the shipment.

Things you need to know:

What are you planning to ship?

What are the dimensions and weight of the shipment?

Where is the shipment originating?

How is the shipment packaged?

If you are shipping various items from the USA, the shipping lines and freight forwarders also provide consolidation services. The items can be delivered to their warehouse (usually in South Florida) and they will hold the items until everything arrives, then they will send as one shipment. When dealing with many suppliers, this is your most cost-effective option.

Upon arrival, all imports have to be cleared through HM Customs and Cayman Islands Port Authority. Custom duties will be charged on most items. Duties on average will be 20% of the total of the cost of the goods, marine insurance & freight. For more information and to find out the duties you will be charged, you can contact HM Customs at 345-949-4579. Port Charges will also be applicable. For more information please contact the Port Authority at 345-949-2055.

For your convenience, you can appoint a customs broker to clear the shipment through HM Customs and Port Authority and to arrange delivery.

If in doubt, please direct your queries to any of the shipping lines or freight forwarders listed on Ecay and they will be happy to assist you with your shipment to its final destination. We wish you a stress free shipping experience!
