Nuclear Medicine

We offer the island's only nuclear medicine service.  Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty that allows diagnosis and treatment of diseases to be made by using a small amount of radioactive tracers.  After the tracer has been administered images are obtained with a gamma camera that show the localizatin of the tracer in the patient's body.  Physicians with special training interpret the studies for the diagnosis of the disease. Certain diseases are treated with radiotracers in nuclear medicine.

Currently we offer Stress Thalllium Heart studies on a monthly basis.  One of the key benefits of Nuclear studies is that the tests are extremely sensitive and allows the detection of many diseases at early stages.  Unlike other imaging studies that give only structural information, nuclear medicine tests provide information about the functional status and viability of different organs and tissues.

For more information about our Nuclear Medicine Program please contact us on 943-5800 or email [email protected]
